Zlatibor is known not only for its natural beauty but also for its rich history. One location that combines these two values is the King’s Fountain, built in memory of an event on August 20, 1893, when the then King of Serbia, Alexander I Obrenović, stayed at this site. It is recorded that during his visit to Zlatibor, he stopped here to rest and refresh by the mountain spring.
In remembrance of this event, the locals erected the fountain, marking the moment considered the beginning of Zlatibor tourism. The King’s visit symbolically demonstrated the mountain’s potential as a place for rest, health, and nature retreats.
King’s Fountain is located in the central part of Zlatibor, along a pedestrian path through the park forest. It is easily accessible by a leisurely walk from the center, making it a perfect destination for a car-free outing.
The surroundings are well maintained, peaceful, and suitable for a break in nature. Nearby are other historical landmarks of Zlatibor, as well as well-kept trails for walking, running, and recreation. Besides its historical significance, King’s Fountain is also a favorite spot for photography, relaxation, and enjoying the shade of pine trees. During the summer, cultural programs and artistic events are often held here, bringing the ambiance to life.
